Farewell, Pastor Augustin

It was sad yet uplifting listening to the stories and reminiscences shared by Pastor Augustin’s friends and family tonight. That the eulogies almost couldn’t end showed how many lives he touched.

I recall what was practically my first conversation with Pastor Augustin; this was around 2009-ish when I was helping with putting up the Sunday sermons on the blog.

I recall asking him for his sermon slide or outline and he said he didn’t have one; he told me he sketched out his messages and a piece of paper — and that was it.

Those of us who have listened to Pastor Augustin preach over the last decade or so would recall that his sermons were likely the most ‘casual’ and ‘chatty-like’ messages any congregation would hear on any given Sunday.

You normally couldn’t guess which way the teaching was heading, what stories would appear and when a joke (usually about family and relationships) would rear its head.

There was, however, one thing you would always expect Pastor Augustin to talk about: The crazy-deep love of God.

In a sense, one could say that Pastor Augustin spoke about nothing else throughout his ministry — because he felt there was nothing else worth preaching about. When it comes to God’s love, it was all-conquering and naturally all-deserving of our attention and praxis.

We will miss you, Pastor.
