3 ways to check if an academic journal is legit

What follows are a few ways academic writers can evaluate if the journal(s) they are submitting their articles to are legit and free from ‘predatory’ concerns.

  1. See if the journal shows up in the Scimago Journal & Country Rank list. If it does, it’s a good sign it’s fine.
  2. See if the journal shows up on Beall’s List of Predatory Journals; if it does, run.
  3. Check the journal against RX Comm’s 6 Ways to Spot Predatory Journals.
